Sight.org Visits Grace Vision

Sight.org Visits Grace Vision

Sight.org’s founder, Lewis Swann and his wife Naomi Swann went to South Africa last month to observe another eye care ministry called Grace Vision. Sight.org is always looking for ways to learn and become a better ministry. We are thankful that we had this opportunity to learn from Grace Vision. This video highlights their trip.

Grace Vision is an awesome medical ministry very similar to Sight.org. Like Sight.org, they are bringing eye care and the gospel to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. We have a lot to learn from each other!

Urgent Prayer Request

Urgent Prayer Request

Urgent prayer request for Sight.org! Our medical team is in a new village doing screenings this week. We knew that the needs in this village would be more numerous than the other villages we serve, but they are even bigger than we imagined.

This village is so far from medical care, that the people have neglected their health needs or tried using traditional medicines that did not work. Many will not be able to have surgery because their eyes are so bad. Our team can give them certain medicines that will help, however. There are many children there as well in the same situation. The medicine we are providing for them will save the small amount of light that remains in their eyes, keeping them from going completely blind. There are still many will still be able to have surgeries.
Please pray for two specific patients. There is one lady and one young girl who have complicated cataracts. Both of them have already lost one eye from cataracts and we are trying to save the other eye. The young girl in this picture has a very strong faith, so praise the Lord for that.

Also, please pray for Lewis Swann, our founder, as he is traveling to South Africa today. He will be there for two weeks. He is checking out the eye ministry called Grace Vision. They have a very similar program to Sight.org, so Lewis and his wife Naomi are going to observe their ministry and learn from them how to better the ministry of Sight.org.

Thank you for your prayers!

If you feel led to donate to these needs, go to Sight.org/donate and put “Village of Elevagnon” in the comments.

“Can Anyone Help My Little Angelé?”

“Can Anyone Help My Little Angelé?”

My name is Kornye.

I am a farmer.

I am a dad.

I have a nine-year-old daughter named Angelé.

One day, I noticed that one of Angelé’s eyes was turning inwards. Her friends started teasing her because she was cross-eyed. She started having difficulty reading or focusing. Then I started seeing little white clouds in both of her eyes. They seemed to get bigger every time I looked at her. Eventually, Angelé was not able to go to school because she couldn’t even see her own hand in front of her face. She couldn’t even walk by herself anymore.

Angele

My heart broke for my daughter but I had no one to help her. I asked the doctor in my village for help but he couldn’t do anything for her. My friends told me that there was an eye doctor in the capital, but I didn’t have enough money to get there. I have never left my village.

Last month, a strange looking vehicle drove into our village. Some people got out of that vehicle and started examining the eyes of everyone in our village. They called themselves Sight.org.

Suddenly, my heart jumped. Could these people help my Angele? I ran and grabbed my daughter. As we waited in line, I had hope for the first time in years. A man from Sight.org looked at her eyes and declared that they could help her.

The day of her surgery, Angelé was frightened. She didn’t want to go in that strange looking vehicle. She cried, but she was brave, for me. I was nervous too, but I kept a brave face for my daughter. I watched her step into the vehicle and I wondered what they would do to her.

I prayed.

When she came out, she had bandages on both eyes and had to be led to a chair. It was hard to see my daughter this way. The next day, they took off the bandages. The people asked her to open her eyes, but she refused. She was too scared. She didn’t open her eyes for many hours.

My heart sunk. Was she in pain? Did the surgery work?

Angele

She finally opened her eyes, but she couldn’t see anything.

The Sight.org people came back a week later to check her eyes again. She opened her eyes for them this time, but they did not see any change. She still couldn’t see the doctor’s hands in front of her face. I looked at the doctor’s face. When I saw his face, I lost hope. He didn’t think she would be able to see again. I wondered if my daughter would ever see again.

Then, a miracle happened. One day, she could see her hands. Then she could see her feet. Each day, she could see a little more.

A month later, when Sight.org came back to check her eyes again, she was walking all by herself with a big smile on her face. She could count all of their fingers. Everyone started jumping and cheering for her. They all started praising Jesus. I will never forget that day.

Angelé is now back in school. She can play with her friends again. She can run into my arms again. I am so thankful for the gift that Sight.org has brought to my Angelé.

Our lives have been changed because someone cared enough to bring that strange looking vehicle to our village.

Believe in a World Without Darkness

Believe in a World Without Darkness

At Christmas, we see that word everywhere, and it usually has glitter all over it.

BELIEVE in Santa

BELIEVE in miracles

BELIEVE in the true meaning of Christmas.

At Sight.org, we BELIEVE in light.

This week is the first week of Advent. During Advent, we spend time thinking about God’s light coming down to expel the darkness.

Only light can cast out darkness.

“If your eyes are open today, you will undoubtedly see darkness all around. Darkness is the reality for those who choose to not follow God but instead follow their own, sinful way. Know this: darkness is not of God. God is light and in Him there is no darkness.”

The people we serve and love in Togo are living in two kinds of darkness. They live in physical and spiritual darkness.

God has gifted us with an amazing medical staff and mobile eye clinic. They can take away that physical darkness within twenty-four hours. We could so easily focus on just the eye surgeries. It is truly amazing to see the transformation of a person going from visually impaired to complete sight.

But we know that God has bigger plans for these people.

This is Divi Gladys. She is 65 years old and has been blind for 3 years. She used to be a tailor but could no longer work because she was visually impaired. Now she can see again, work again, and live a normal life. Can you see the transformation in her face? Her physical darkness is gone. God uses these surgeries to open doors for the gospel.

This is a woman named Malibow (or Malekpo). Our ministry team met her while showing the Jesus Film in the village of Adjahon. Many people in this village have received sight at our mobile eye clinic. Malibow does not suffer from visual impairment, but she does suffer from epilepsy. One of her seizures caused her to fall into a fire and burn herself. She asked our team to pray over her. Her epilepsy did not go away, but instead, she was overcome by the presence of Jesus. She became a believer that day and she has never been the same. Can you see the transformation in her face? The light of Jesus has entered her life and she has been changed completely.

At Sight.org, we hold on to these words, “Believe in a world without darkness.” We feel that these words encompass what God has called us to do.

Do you believe in a world without darkness? Do you believe that God’s light can expel darkness?

God is doing this amazing work in Togo. He is being light in the darkness, both physically and spiritually. He is changing the lives of people all around us.

But God is not just at work in Togo, He is at work everywhere you go. This Advent, let God be a light in your dark world. Let Him be a light through you.

“One of the things that maintained my interest in supporting this ministry is the holistic approach it has taken, including partnership with the local community and government, training for farmers to reduce malnutrition (which impacts eye health) and sharing the gospel. In addition to the eye care provided by Sight.org, I believe these other items are just as critical to creating long-lasting impact in countries like Togo. I feel blessed to play a small role in all the good work Sight.org is doing.”

Thank You

Thank You

When you donate to Sight.org, you give so much more than eye surgeries.

You can see evidence of that in the village of Adjahon.

Adjahon is a village full of people who know the name Jesus. Many of them go to a church. Several people in this village have received eye surgeries from Sight.org and can now see. But God is doing bigger and greater things than our human hands can do.

A few months ago, we went into this village and started a small house church. We gave them an audio Bible and asked the “Person of Peace” to sit with other villagers and listen to God’s Word. Now, God is doing miracles.

We prayed over a woman with epilepsy, and God transformed her life from the inside. She is now overwhelmed by God’s grace.

She can’t pray without weeping.

Sight.org

We prayed over a woman who had not had a full night’s sleep in eleven years, and now God has granted her peaceful sleep.

We prayed over a woman who had not seen her son in five years, and he has now returned.

sight.org

God is working in this village. They have all been to church, but they have never experienced God in such personal ways.

God used the eye surgeries to build a relationship with these people, and now the whole village is seeing God move in miraculous ways.

sight.org

We always think that we know what we are doing. We think that we have the tools to fix people’s lives. But God always blows us away. He does so much more than our hands can do. We are his hands and feet, but he is the God of the universe.

All of this started with you. Without you, this ministry would not be possible. God is using you to do miraculous things in the country of Togo, Africa. THANK YOU.

This Thanksgiving, we are thankful for you and for God’s gracious work.
