Founou Agbanna after cataract surgery in Afagnan-Bas Mono

Founou Agbanna has spent her life farming in Afagnan-Bas Mono.

She knows the feel of soil in her hands and the rhythm of planting and harvest. But over time, cataracts slowly dimmed her sight. What began as difficulty seeing became complete dependence.

She could not dress herself. She could not eat without help. Even walking to the toilet required someone to guide her. Her aunt’s child cared for her daily. Her daughters sent money when they could and worried about her future.

She told us the hardest part was losing her dignity.

When she heard that a mobile eye surgery team was coming to her village, she and her daughters came with hope. She was nervous at first. Hospitals had not always treated her kindly. But she was welcomed gently and reassured.

The surgery was quick.

The next morning, her bandages were removed.

She blinked in the light and began to smile.

Not long after, she walked to her field by herself.

Now she checks her crops again. She dresses herself. She moves around her home without assistance. Her family rests easier.

One of our staff members said she looked almost like a different woman—not because of anything dramatic, but because hope had returned to her face.

This is what happens when sight is restored close to home.

Thank you for standing with her and with villages like hers.
