Living in Darkness in Rural Togo
At 85 years old, Ayedjoa Paparam still loved working in the fields with his grandchildren in rural Togo. He carried a hoe, walked beside them, and enjoyed spending time together outdoors.
Then cataracts slowly took his sight.
For five months, he lived in complete darkness. He could no longer shower or go to the toilet without help from his family. Most days, he stayed inside the house while his grandchildren went to the fields without him.
Ayedjoa traveled to a hospital in Kara, where he was told surgery could restore his sight. But the cost was too high for his family.
Receiving Cataract Surgery in Pagouda-Binah
Later, he heard on the radio that Sight.org was coming to Pagouda-Binah to provide free cataract surgeries.
He came with his children and received surgery through Sight.org’s mobile eye team.
The next morning, when the bandage was removed, Ayedjoa could see clearly again after months in darkness.
Seeing His Grandchildren Again
Today, he is once again walking to the fields with his grandchildren. He can care for himself again and no longer spends his days sitting alone inside the house.
During the outreach, our team also shared the gospel and prayed with patients and families in the village.
Thank you for helping bring sight to people like Ayedjoa. Because of you, he can see his grandchildren again.
