When His Vision Began to Fade

When Fefelga injured his eye while clearing his field, he thought the pain would pass.

Instead, his vision slowly faded.

As a young farmer in northern Togo, he depended on his eyesight to care for his wife and child. But as the months passed, work became harder and harder. Eventually, neighbors began helping his family financially and assisting in the fields so they could keep food on the table.

He later traveled to a city hospital, where doctors told him the damage had caused a traumatic cataract. They warned him that even surgery might not restore his sight.

That conversation stayed with him.

He said it was the moment he began losing hope.

A Friend Told Him to Come

Earlier this year, during Sight.org’s outreach in Pagouda-Binah, a friend rushed to tell Fefelga that an eye team had arrived nearby.

He came cautiously.

The team explained honestly that surgery could not guarantee his vision would return. Some patients recover sight in cases like his, while others do not.

Still, he chose to move forward.

He prayed before surgery, during surgery, and again afterward while waiting through the night.

The next morning, when the bandage was removed, he could see clearly again.

Back in His Field Again

Today, Fefelga is back in his fields planting and harvesting again. He no longer depends on others to provide for his family.

He says one of the greatest joys has been seeing his child’s face clearly again without fear of losing the vision in his remaining eye.

Thank you for helping bring sight to villages like his.
