When people hear about Sight.org, they often picture eye surgeries in remote villages. While restoring sight is at the heart of what we do, much of the work begins long before the first patient arrives.
God has built this ministry through people who already know and love their communities.
Before every outreach, we spend time with village chiefs, local pastors, healthcare workers, and community volunteers. These trusted leaders help identify patients, prepare their villages, and welcome our mobile surgical team.
This is simply how we believe ministry should happen.
Rather than asking patients to travel long distances to a hospital, we bring cataract surgery directly to their communities. Families stay close during recovery, and local volunteers walk alongside patients throughout the process.
Our African doctors, nurses, and staff are at the heart of this work. They understand the language, culture, and daily life of the communities they serve. Over the years, Sight.org has also trained dozens of African ophthalmologists so that more people can receive quality eye care for years to come.
Before sharing the Gospel, we respectfully ask village chiefs for permission. Since Sight.org began in 2012, every community we have entered has welcomed this opportunity. We believe that trust has grown because people see genuine care through compassionate medical service.
The Gospel is never forced or used as leverage. Every patient is treated with dignity, regardless of how they respond.
As more African eye surgeons are trained and local medical professionals gain experience, more communities are able to care for future generations. We want to strengthen communities, not create dependence.
For many patients, cataract surgery restores much more than eyesight. Grandparents care for grandchildren again. Farmers return to their fields. Parents are able to provide for their families with renewed independence.
None of this happens because of one organization working alone.
It happens because village chiefs open their communities, churches faithfully serve, volunteers care for patients, African medical teams serve their own people, and supporters around the world continue to pray.
We are deeply grateful for every person who makes this ministry possible.
